Wild Bunch Cowboy Action
Description
Wild Bunch shooting is similar to Cowboy Action shooting utilizing 3 guns at varying distances and targets. Shots are placed at a combination of Steel and rubber targets at varying distances The event is timed with additional time assessed for misses and penalties.
Equipment
Requires a lever action rifle of pistol calibre (preferable 40 calibre or better), double barrel or pump shotgun (1897 model) in 12 or 20 gauge, and a 1911 45 ACP pistol plus 4 Mags. No 45 ACP then any semi automatic pistol works.
Holster should be of leather to be authentic.
Eye & Ear protection is mandatory.
Shoot Format
Usually 3 – 4 stages are shot one cowpoke at a time. Shooting will consist of 10 – 20 rounds pistol, 4-6 rounds shotgun and 5-10 rounds from the rifle.
Pistol and rifle will be shot at steel targets and shotgun will be shot at steel and rubber knockdown targets.
Additional information
This format derives its name from the movie the Wild Bunch, if you get a chance see the movie. Dress in the movie ranges from standard cowboy to WW1 attire; either is acceptable for the match. Please no camouflage attire.
Not everyone will have the equipment so:
Any centre fire semi-automatic pistol (or revolver), any pistol calibre lever action rifle, any shotgun as a pump or double (including over under) will do.
Come out and enjoy the sport, participants will normally make available lever action rifles and shotguns for those who do not have the equipment, just bring ammo.
Wild Bunch Cowboy Rules
Lowest time wins
Time = Shoot time + Misses + Penalty
All stages will be scored separately and a 1st – last place assigned. Overall winner is the lowest score of placement in each stage.
Misses
5 sec added to time per miss
Penalty, No more than 1 per stage (top penalty applies)
10 sec Un-Intentional Penalty such as not following the shoot format (2X miss penalty)
30 sec Failure to engage non shooting format (6 X miss penalty)
10 sec Failure to stage firearms
10 sec Failure to legally acquired ammo (all targets shot with illegal ammo are misses)
Minor Safety
10 sec Failure to open firearm when finished with firearm (2X miss penalty)
Failure to point firearm down range (Stage disqualification)
Major Safety, Disqualify from stage
Dropped Gun
AD within 10’ (within 5’ match disqualification)
170 Rule
Sweeping
Match Disqualification
Two minor violations
Dropped load firearm
All ammo dropped is dead when engaging targets, must be replaced from body
