Backup gun

Shoot Discipline

Backup gun

Description

Pinned down and your primary firearm is out of ammunition? What do you do now...? Simple;

you revert to your back-up gun...

A back-up gun match gives competitors the challenge/opportunity to “run whatcha brung” (so

to speak) by allowing them to practice their shooting skills with the firearm they have, vs the firearm

they wish they had... i.e. THE BACKUP GUN.

This sport provides the competitor with a variety of “real world” scenarios, such as home

invasions, robberies, etc..., engaging targets with their “back-up” gun, rather than with their primary

rifle; challenging the competitor both mentally and physically (with more emphasis on the mental

component).

Equipment

1. Hearing and eye protection

2. One (1) pistol or revolver, either center fire or rim fire, of any caliber

3. One (1) magazine (for semi-automatic pistols)

4. Sufficient ammunition to complete all COF as per the match description (variable). A good rule

of thumb for ammunition requirement when considering match design is 50 pistol rounds

(maximum)

5. *Optional* One (1) holster, strong hand side only, on waist (no cross draw, drop-leg, shoulder,

small-of-back, etc...)

6. One (1) chamber flag, if the shooter does not have a holster

Shoot Format

Starting loaded, from the low-ready (or pistol/revolver staged, unloaded, dependant upon the

stage design), competitors will engage standard or mini IPSC paper targets, arranged in a variety of

configurations, with one (1) fully loaded magazine (for semi-autos) or one (1) fully loaded cylinder (for

revolvers), per stage, until their magazine/cylinder is empty.

Scoring will be calculated by dividing the competitor’s overall score (standard IPSC scoring zones

apply: A=5pts, C=3pts, D=1pt) by the time taken to complete the stage (in seconds). Highest score wins.

Example: 5 A = 25pts

4 C = 12pts

1 D = 1pt

___________

Total: 38pts / 24 seconds = 1.58 Final Score for the stage

*As there is limited movement, standard gun safety regulations will apply to all stages

*As always, the RSO’s word is FINAL
